The European Union Delegation (EUD) to Liberia, in collaboration with the Government of Liberia, has launched the Communication and Visibility component of the Light Up South East (LUSE) project, aimed at enhancing rural electrification in the underserved southeastern counties.
The local media firm In Profile Daily (IPD) Inc. has been awarded the contract to lead this crucial initiative.
The signing ceremony for the contract took place at the National Authorizing Office (NAO) of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and was followed by meetings with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).
Ambassador Nona Deprez, Head of the EU Delegation to Liberia, praised IPD for its successful bid, noting that effective communication is vital for the success of EU infrastructure projects in the region. “We trust IPD’s expertise to build meaningful relationships with local communities, ensuring transparency and clarity around the project’s objectives,” she stated.
Counsellor Martus K. Williams from the NAO emphasized the importance of community involvement in project success, stating, “When people understand a project’s purpose and benefits, they are more likely to support and take ownership of it.”
The partnership between NAO and IPD includes a range of communication activities, such as media campaigns, public events, and stakeholder engagements, all designed to foster community awareness and involvement in the project.
Mr. Carlton Boah, founder of IPD, expressed his commitment to the project by stating, “Our communication strategy will go beyond traditional methods to include innovative and community-driven outreach.”
His remarks were echoed by Mr. Y. Solomon W. Watkins, the Project’s Key Expert, who stressed the significance of keeping communities informed and motivated to participate in their development.
