At the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, Liberia, Chinese cardiologist Dr Yuan Jingwei and her team from Heilongjiang Province of China have helped establish the nation’s first cardiology department, bringing specialized care to patients who once had no access to heart treatment.

In temporary clinics and modest consultation rooms, Yuan and her colleagues treat local residents, review medical reports and train Liberian doctors in cardiac diagnosis and management. Their work often stretches beyond the hospital – into rural outreach, mobile clinics and on-the-ground mentoring.

Through more than 900 days of dedication far from home, Yuan has turned compassion and expertise into lasting change – helping hundreds of patients regain the rhythm of life, and writing a new chapter of China-Africa medical cooperation with every heartbeat.
