The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has accused the Unity Party–led government of prioritizing the acquisition and expansion of party headquarters over addressing Liberia’s deepening economic and social problems and urged President Joseph Boakai to redirect resources toward urgent public needs.

In a statement, the opposition party said ordinary Liberians are facing “soaring commodity costs, a failing health sector, deteriorating infrastructure and a stagnant economy,” while the administration focuses on building its political footprint. “This is not governance—it is self-serving politics at the expense of the people,” the ANC said.

The party singled out several areas it says require immediate government attention: rising prices, unemployment, support for market women, food insecurity, and the collapse of essential public services. It also warned of worsening service delivery as the dry season begins, citing water shortages and power rationing by the Liberia Electricity Corporation.

The ANC accused senior officials of enriching themselves through “unchecked allowances, unnecessary overseas trips, inflated contracts and opaque financial dealings,” allegations the party said illustrate a lack of leadership, compassion and competence in confronting economic hardship.

The opposition called on the Boakai administration to prioritize policies that create jobs, stabilize commodity prices, strengthen the health sector and invest in people rather than political infrastructure. “Liberians did not vote for a government that would put party interests above national well-being,” the ANC said, adding: “The Liberian people deserve better.”

The ANC’s statement did not indicate a specific timeline for expected reforms, and there was no immediate public response from the Unity Party or government officials.
