A violent altercation over cane juice in Kakata last Friday evening left one man hospitalized and another in police custody after part of a victim’s ear was allegedly bitten off.

Police identified the suspect as Saidu Tony, 30, a local businessman, who is accused of biting Chris Saye, 29, during a fistfight at a liquor and cane juice shop in the Green Island Community. The incident, which shocked residents, unfolded around 4:00 p.m. and quickly drew the attention of law enforcement.

According to police reports, Tony was escorted to the Crime Services Department (CSD) in Kakata by a patrol team following allegations of aggravated assault. Officers noted that Tony himself was bleeding from the mouth upon arrival at the station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the confrontation began inside a shop owned by a woman identified as Ma Weane. Witnesses told police that the dispute escalated into a physical fight, during which Tony allegedly bit Saye’s ear, severing a portion of it.

Saye, a resident of Telecom Community, was rushed to a hospital in Francis Lewis Farm Community, where he remains admitted and is receiving treatment for the injury. Police confirmed that Tony also required medical attention due to his condition after the fight.

Authorities say the motive behind the altercation is still unclear. “The investigation into the matter is ongoing,” a police source stated, adding that statements are being collected from witnesses and individuals connected to the incident.

As of Friday evening, no formal charges had been filed against Tony, who remains under investigation. Police emphasized that all allegations are subject to further inquiry and stressed that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Law enforcement has urged community members with knowledge of the incident to come forward with additional information to aid the investigation.
