Peter Malcolm King has formally tendered his resignation as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), effective immediately.

Mr. King expressed his sincere appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for the confidence reposed in him and for the opportunity to contribute his knowledge, experience, and network of relationships in service to Liberia and its petroleum sector.

“It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve my country through the National Oil Company of Liberia. I remain deeply grateful to President Boakai for the trust he placed in me and for the opportunity to lend whatever experience and expertise I possess toward the advancement of Liberia’s energy sector and broader national development agenda,” Mr. King said.

Mr. King noted that recent events affecting both his family and business require his full attention and have led him to conclude that it is in the best interest of the institution and the country for him to permanently step aside from the Board at this time.

“In light of recent developments affecting my family and business, I have respectfully decided to relinquish my position on the Board of NOCAL in order to devote my full attention to my family, my professional responsibilities, and the matters presently before the relevant authorities,” he stated.

Mr. King emphasized that his decision is entirely voluntary and is guided by his longstanding belief that public institutions must be protected from unnecessary distractions and that ongoing processes should be allowed to proceed without any perception that public office might influence or interfere with their course.

He reaffirmed his full confidence in Liberia’s justice and security institutions and pledged his continued cooperation with the ongoing national security investigation.

“I have absolute faith in the rule of law and in the professionalism of the institutions entrusted with this investigation. I remain committed to cooperating fully and transparently with the authorities and am confident that the facts will ultimately speak for themselves,” Mr. King said.

Mr. King further expressed appreciation to his fellow members of the NOCAL Board, management, and staff for their professionalism and dedication to the development of Liberia’s petroleum industry.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Liberia and expressed his hope that the country will continue to pursue transparency, accountability, and sustainable development across all sectors.

“I remain, as always, committed to Liberia and to contributing in whatever way I can to the growth and prosperity of our country. I wish the Board, Management, and staff of NOCAL continued success in carrying out their important national responsibilities.”
