The Gorhai-Artee Association of Grand Gedeh County has bestowed honoring flowers on Representative Jeremiah Garwo Sokan, Sr., recognizing his steadfast contributions to development initiatives across District #1.
The ceremony, held recently, at the Association’s headquarters in the 72nd Community along SKD Boulevard, drew a cross-section of prominent sons and daughters of Grand Gedeh County in a spirited display of unity and pride.
Organizers emphasized that the recognition was not merely for holding public office but for a record of service they described as “leadership rooted in unity, heritage, and commitment to Grand Gedeh County.” The event was guided by the Association’s motto, “Gorhai-Kuo” — One People, One Heritage, One Purpose.
In his keynote remarks, Association President Jerry G. Yonmah, who also serves as Technical Manager for Conservation at the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), praised Rep. Sokan’s diligence and dedication to public service. He urged the lawmaker to view the honor as both a celebration of past achievements and a call to intensify his focus on developmental priorities while representing the people’s interests at the Legislature.
Yonmah reminded the representative that constituents of District #1 will continue to monitor his performance closely, ensuring accountability and sustained progress. He commended members of the Association for their strong turnout and lauded the steering committee for organizing a successful occasion.
Special appreciation was extended to traditional singers who traveled from Grand Gedeh to perform, with Yonmah describing their cultural display as a “true representation of the heritage that binds the people of Grand Gedeh together.”
Responding to the honor, Rep. Sokan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Association and the Gorhai family. He noted that the recognition was not unexpected, as he had long anticipated a moment when his people would rise to celebrate his work. “This day was bound to come,” he remarked, “a moment when my people would stand up and acknowledge the efforts I have made on their behalf.”
The district #1 lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to remain “the loudest voice” in the House of Representatives in advocating for development. He pledged that the honor would serve as renewed motivation to expand his efforts beyond what he has already accomplished since his ascension to the Legislature.
