A celebratory event marking the arrival of the county’s much-publicized yellow machines turned tragic when a vehicle reportedly belonging to Nimba County Electoral District No. 3 Representative Nenkeh Gaye struck a town chief, leaving him with life-altering injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, Chief Garr Gbiesealah Yeakpeh Sr. was hit by the lawmaker’s vehicle before reaching the Ganta Immigration Checkpoint during festivities organized to welcome the heavy-duty equipment to the county.

Witnesses said the impact caused severe injuries to the chief’s right foot. He was subsequently rushed to the Ganta Methodist Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly amputated the injured limb due to the extent of the damage.

The incident has cast a shadow over what was intended to be a joyous occasion for residents who had gathered to celebrate the arrival of the machines, which are expected to support road and infrastructure development across the county.

Speaking in an interview, Nimba County Yellow Machines Coordinator Bob Yeakehzee Yini Sr. confirmed that discussions are underway with the office of Representative Gaye regarding the unfortunate incident.

“We are currently engaging the representative’s office to determine an appropriate way forward,” Yini said.

As of press time, neither Representative Gaye nor members of his office had publicly commented on the accident.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, and it has not been established who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Authorities have yet to release an official report on the crash.

Further details are expected as investigations continue and discussions between the victim’s family, county officials, and the lawmaker’s office progress.
