Liberia Elections Body Releases Timetables for October Vote

Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) has updated its colander of events for the scheduled 2023 presidential and legislative elections, maintaining the constitutional date of, 10 October 2023, as polling Day.

Candidate nomination begins June 14 and ends on July 14 while the issuance of Writ of Elections will be on 9 July, the Commission said in a statement Tuesday.

Phase one of the Biometric Voter Registration exercise targeting six counties ( Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu) will kickoff on March 20. Phase two begins on April 21 in Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Bong, and Lofa counties and will climax on May 11, the commission said..

Presidential and legislative campaign period for the 2023 General Elections commence August 52023, ending on October 8.2023, two days before polling starts. Final elections results will be announced October 25.

Senior members of political parties and elections partners under the Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) agreed on the elections timeline, NEC Co-chairperson Teplah Reeves said.
