Former Liberian Lawmakers Seek Nearly $1 Million In Unpaid Salaries And Benefits

Former House members who served the erstwhile 53rd National Legislature have filed a writ of mandamus with the Supreme Court in efforts to push Finance Ministry officials and current House’s leadership to pay them nearly one million United States dollars.

They are seeking full payment of $832,000, representing unpaid salaries accrued and benefits associated with service as lawmakers.

The arears appropriated in the Special Budget of 2021, the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Finance have refused to allot and disburse the fund in breach of the budget law, the petition alleged.

Worlea-Saywah Dunah, the House’s former Judiciary Committee Chair and former Bong County Representatives George Mulbah are leading the law suit against the government.
