Liberia: Ukraine’s President Phones Boakai About Peace Summit

Must read

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone call with Liberian President  Joseph Nyumah Boakai regarding his country’s war with the Russian Federation.

Zelensky reported the interaction with the West African Leader  via Telegram, according to Ukrainein outlet Ukrinform.

“I told of the consequences of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and, in particular, its impact on food security in Africa,” Zelensky wrote.

“The head of state thanked the Republic of Liberia for its principled position on supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

In this context, the parties also discussed preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, the agency reported.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has  threatened several African economies including Liberia. In Liberia, food shortages and surging prices have seen protesters throng the streets of Monrovia in recent years,

The war in Ukraine choked off supplies of wheat from that country and its invader to the global market. That forced up prices of other staples such as the rice eaten by most inhabitants of countries like Liberia.
