Liberia Aims to Establish National Sulfur Fuel Standards to Curb Emission

Must read

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) has issued a call for proposals to help Liberia develop national sulfur fuel standards and build capacity for mandatory vehicle inspections.

This initiative is in response to a request from Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address these critical issues.

The project, which has an estimated budget of $150,000, aims to deliver a mandatory vehicle inspection program, implement a vehicle labeling system to register short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) emissions, and establish a national sulfur fuel standard for heavy-duty vehicles and engines.

“This project is a crucial step in enhancing fuel efficiency, reducing SLCP emissions, and aligning with Liberia’s National Transport Policy and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative,” the climate group said Monday.

“This project builds on the ongoing work funded by CCAC, such as Liberia’s national methane roadmap and the development of a waste sector strategy that reduces black carbon emissions from open burning.”

CCAC is calling for proposals from non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, and other not-for-profit entities. The deadline for submissions is August 30, 2024.
