Must read

President Joseph Boakai has paid tribute to the Catholic Church in Liberia for its contribution to nation building, peace and development.

The President highlighted the Church’s profound impact on Liberia’s socio-economic and cultural landscapes, praising its contributions to education, healthcare, and the shaping of the nation’s moral conscience.

He said the Church’s involvement in Liberia is “not a recent phenomenon but rather an enduring legacy that parallels the establishment of the country.

“The Catholic Church has played a very crucial role in our nation’s growth and prosperity,” the President said hoping for a continued strong partnership between the state and the Church to advance the country’s common goals.

The President made these remarks during Sunday Aug. 4 Mass for the Conferral of Pallium on His Grace Archbishop Gabriel Blamo Jubwe of the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia.

The pallia is a vestment in the Catholic Church which symbolizes an archbishop’s unity with the pope and his authority and responsibility to take care of the flock entrusted to him.

Speaking before a congregation that included the Apostolic Nuncio from the Holy See, Catholic bishops, clergy, and the faithful, President Boakai expressed deep gratitude to Pope Francis for appointing Archbishop Jubwe as the new leader of the Monrovia Archdiocese.

“This appointment reflects a deep recognition of Archbishop Jubwe’s exemplary leadership and selfless dedication to the Church and the nation,” he said.

The President offered his “heartfelt gratitude” for the Church’s unwavering support and dedication, and wished Archbishop Jubwe a tenure filled with “wisdom and grace as he labors in the Lord’s vineyard and leads the archdiocese and church.”
