Liberia: CDC Poses Threat to Peace

Must read

The former National Chairman of the ruling Unity Party’s United States branch, Fredrick Samuel Gibson, has accused the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) party of posing a serious threat to the peace, security, and stability of Liberia.

Gibson’s remarks come in the wake of recent statements made by former President George Weah, the CDC’s standard-bearer, in which he vowed that the party would use “every means at its disposal” to stop the Unity Party-led government from “undermining the rule of law and threatening Liberia’s peace.”

According to the former UP-USA chairman, it is Weah and his “CDC fanatics” who have “consistently threatened the peace and security of the country by orchestrating a systematic campaign aimed at castigating and vilifying the government, instigating civil disobedience, inciting protests aimed at causing unrest and other forms of disruptive activities to distract the government from implementing its development agenda.”

Gibson pointed out that since the defeat of Weah and his allies in the 2023 democratic elections, these “disgruntled” individuals have vowed to be “disruptive opponents,” embarking on a campaign to “terrorize the country with activities aimed at creating the impression that Liberia is ungovernable, unstable, and unfit for investment.”

The former UP-USA chairman went on to describe Weah’s “unguided utterance” as a threat not only to Liberia’s peace and security, but also to the stability of the sub-region, the broader region, and the global community, which he said “has come under threat of insecurity and is being undermined by the hour.”

Mr. Gibson issued a “clarion call” to the people of Liberia, the sub-region, and the world at large, urging them to take a close look at the “sinister and satanic machinations of this gangster and mafia group styling itself as a grassroots political party” and to stop it from “wrecking further damage on the socio-economic and political landscape of the country.”

He also made a passionate appeal to Liberians to focus on “crawling out of the dungeon Mr. Weah and his CDC fascists dumped them into during their six years of misrule, misery, and catastrophic plundering of the nation’s resources” by supporting President Boakai and his government in their “rescue operation.”
