Must read

The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has officially joined the African Forum of Utility Regulators (AFUR) after successfully navigating a rigorous admission process.

In a letter addressed to LERC’s Board of Commissioners Chairman, Dr. Lawrence D. Sekajipo, AFUR’s Executive Secretary Debbie Roets expressed her pleasure in welcoming LERC as a full member.

She also invited the Commission to present at the upcoming 21st Annual Conference scheduled for March 2025 in Kribi, Cameroon, where LERC will be introduced to the wider membership.

Dr. Sekajipo hailed the membership as a significant milestone in the Commission’s brief yet impactful history.

He emphasized that LERC, as one of the emerging regulators on the African continent, aims to leverage its new membership to enhance its regulatory oversight of electricity in Liberia.

AFUR serves as a platform for utility regulators from various sectors, including energy, telecommunications, transport, and water & sanitation, to collaborate on regulatory issues. The organization seeks to foster cooperation among regulators across Africa, promoting the continent’s growth and socio-economic development.

Through AFUR, members can share best practices, regulatory experiences, and guidelines to develop effective regulatory frameworks, harmonize market structures, and oversee trans-border initiatives.
