The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has taken step toward boosting economic growth by voting to grant autonomous authority to seaports in three of Liberia’s counties: Greenville, Harper, and Buchanan.
The move sets the stage for these ports to transition into full county-based operations, pending concurrence from the House of Representatives, Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence said.
If approved by the Lower House of the 55th National Legislature, this initiative will:
- Expand port capacity through critical projects like dredging,
- Enhance port operations in Sinoe, Maryland, and Grand Bassa Counties,
- Increase local revenue and employment opportunities, etc.
