Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, emphasized the critical importance of executing a creditable, efficient, and effective national budget can foster growth and development, according to Liberia’s minister of Finance and Development Planning.
Augustine Ngafuan called for accountability and fairness in the execution of the budget when he addressed a recent workshop themed “Executing a Creditable, Efficient, and Effective Budget to Achieve the ARREST Agenda,” commenced on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
He urged all 108 spending entities to prioritize the successful implementation of the FY2025 Budget, stating that effective management of fiscal resources is vital for the realization of the government’s goals under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
“The passage of the budget before the New Year marks a historic achievement, reflecting years of effort,” he noted, while highlighting the need for adherence to established priorities and legal frameworks to ensure accountability and transparency in budget execution.
The workshop aims to equip participants with essential skills and insights necessary for efficient budget implementation, fostering a strong understanding of public financial management. Deputy Minister for Budget and Development Planning, Tanneh Brunson, reiterated the heavy responsibility that comes with budget execution, emphasizing fiscal discipline and alignment with national objectives.
Financial experts attending the workshop expressed optimism regarding the execution prospects of the FY2025 Budget, noting that the previous fiscal year’s transitional challenges have largely been resolved.
Minister Ngafuan affirmed that the timely and smooth passage of the budget reflects a commitment to improving resource management, encouraging all Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs) and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to engage in strategic planning to maximize budget effectiveness throughout the year.
