In a significant move to strengthen the relationship with the government and address issues affecting children and young people, Mr. Elber Nosolini, Acting National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, recently paid a courtesy visit to President Joseph Boakai, at the Executive Mansion.
The high-level meeting centered on presenting “A Bold Vision for Liberia’s Children” and SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia’s 5-year strategic plan to support vulnerable children, young people, and families.
The discussions also focused on partnership and strengthening cooperation in child safeguarding, youth development, and family strengthening initiatives. Mr. Nosolini reaffirmed SOS Children’s Villages’ long-standing commitment to the well-being of children, especially children who lost parental care or are at risk of losing parental care, and pledged the organization’s support to the government’s street children initiative, titled: “Support A Child, Save The Future.”
During the meeting, Mr. Nosolini commended the Liberian government for its proactive efforts to address the plight of children living in street situations. He emphasized the importance of building resilient families and empowering young people as key strategies for sustainable national development.
President Boakai Commends Ongoing Support for Children
President Boakai expressed heartfelt appreciation for the work of SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, highlighting its vital role in child development and community empowerment. Reflecting on his personal visit to the SOS Children’s Village in Juah Town, Grand Bassa County, he remarked, “I visited the SOS facility in Grand Bassa and was impressed by the level of work being done to support Liberian children.”
He further praised the organization for its continued contributions to Liberia’s development, affirming his government’s commitment to strengthening the partnership. “We welcome your work and will support you in every way possible,” President Boakai said, encouraging close collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection.
In response, Mr. Nosolini thanked the President and the people of Liberia for their unwavering support. He shared that SOS Children’s Villages developed a new 5-year strategic plan aimed at maximizing impact and enhancing its engagement with national stakeholders.
“We are eager to build on our long-standing relationship with the Government of Liberia and expand our reach to ensure we reach many more children,” Mr. Nosolini stated.
The meeting concluded with a shared vision for a stronger collaboration. Both parties agreed that investing in children and youth is essential to Liberia’s long-term peace and prosperity.
“We should all work to invest in the future of children,” Mr. Nosolini emphasized, echoing the organization’s core belief that every child deserves a fair chance in life.
