Must read

Emmanuel Gaye, an advocate for same sex marriage who narrowly escape for fear of his life has once again become the subject of discussion with mounting threats coming from members of his community vowing to increase threating pressure on him if he ever dare return to the community, or the country with such discussion.

Mr. Gaye, an advocate for same sex marriage in Liberia has faced serious criticism from community dwellers who detested such practice describing it as “taboo” and an affront to African cultural practice; something that almost led to his untimely demise, had it not been for the intervention of some well-meaning Liberians.

The incident which occurred a little over a year ago has rekindled in recent time when heads, and top officials of the Liberia Annual Conference (LAC) / United Methodist Church were at loggerhead over the church’s position on the issue of same sex marriage with one group distancing themselves from such practice there by branding those in favor as the ” Global Methodist Church, on grounds that they have been lure by Western pressure for financial inducement.

The issue which has deepens division amongst religious leaders’ sparked controversy on the position of the church and resulted into violence and vandalism and destruction of properties of the church.

It can be recalled that during this impasse, community members who frowned on such practice were chasing, haunting, and threatening to kill people who are in support of said practice. Given the nature, and sensitivity of the issue, the government has been not wanting to give a specific position on the matter, but with individuals wounding and harming advocates of same sex marriage, it is believed that the government is playing deaf years to what is unfolding.
