The African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) has openly declared its support for the national campaign against drugs and substance abuse in Liberia.
Liberians from all walks of life are expected to march through the country’s capital, Monrovia, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, to rally national actors’ and policy makers’ attention to what the organizers called ” the pervasive wave of drugs and substance abuse in the society “.
Announcing his institution’s fullest support to the campaign, AME University President, Reverend Dr Alvin Attah, noted that as a university with a largely youthful population, AMEU considers it a moral obligation to join this patriotic call to say no drugs and substance abuse.
Reverend Dr, Attah lamented the dreadful impacts of drugs abuse on the Liberian society by saying ” our children are falling off the path of progress and headed to the ditches of destruction due to their involvement with drugs abuse “.
He added ” our struggles with drugs and substance abuse are well documented.”
Reverend Dr Attah noted that now more than ever before is the time for all and sundry to join the fight against drugs and substance abuse.
He added that their support to the campaign against drugs abuse is being done with the mobilization of support from the board of trustees, the students, faculty and staff to the alumni association.
” We are lending a full-scale support to these efforts “. The AMEU President emphasized.
” These efforts are anchored in the conviction that together we can make our society safe and secured for ourselves, our children and our children’s children by sending out a strong message that drugs abuse has no place in our society “. Reverend Dr Attah added.
