The United States Embassy in Monrovia is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph E. Zadrozny as Chargé d’Affaires, effective August 2025. Mr. Zadrozny, a distinguished career member of the Senior Foreign Service, assumed the role following his arrival in Liberia as Deputy Chief of Mission in July 2025.
Mr. Zadrozny brings extensive diplomatic experience to his new position, having most recently served as Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria (2023–2025).
Prior to that, he held the position of Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, at the U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby, where he oversaw diplomatic relations with Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu from April 2022 to August 2023. He also previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the same post.
His overseas assignments include serving as Consul General in Wuhan, China, and holding multiple roles at U.S. diplomatic missions in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenyang.
Mr. Zadrozny has also served in Germany at both the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate General in Frankfurt. Additional postings include the U.S. Embassies in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Before joining the Foreign Service in 1998, Mr. Zadrozny worked with the Peace Corps, first as a Volunteer in Mongolia and later as a staff member at Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C., and in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
A native of Houston, Texas, Mr. Zadrozny is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is multilingual, with proficiency in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Mongolian, and Russian.
