China’s ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu met with the country’s newly appointed Minister of Mines and Energy Matonekay Tingban, signaling a renewed focus on deepening bilateral cooperation in mining and energy following recent high-level engagements between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yin congratulated Minister Tingban on his assumption of office and reviewed the current state of China-Liberia relations.
He said he hoped “both sides would jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two Presidents during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and steadily enhance collaboration, particularly in the mining and energy sectors.”
Ambassador Yin also briefed the minister on key outcomes of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Minister Tingban expressed appreciation for the congratulations and underscored the “significant accomplishments in bilateral cooperation in the mining and energy sectors.” He affirmed his readiness to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese counterparts.
The visit concluded with Ambassador Yin attending the official handing-over ceremony for the Minister of Mines and Energy, underscoring the importance Beijing places on continuity and engagement with Liberia’s new leadership.
Officials on both sides did not announce specific projects or timelines at the meeting. They indicated that detailed cooperation plans and technical exchanges would likely follow as the new minister settles into office.
