The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission awarded Class A professional licenses to four electrical contractors as part of efforts to improve safety standards and reduce fires linked to poor electrical installations.
The newly licensed companies are Best Energy Systems & Technology, also known as BEST Solar; Extrow Energies; S.G. Fahnboto Electric Construction and Control Systems; and Excellent Electric Group of Companies.
The licenses are intended to ensure that electrical installations and related services are performed by qualified and competent professionals, LERC Board Chairman Claude J. Katta said at a licensing ceremony.
“Through this licensing program, we want the public to have confidence that they are hiring professionals who possess the necessary qualifications, competence, and credentials,” Katta said.
Liberia has experienced a growing number of electrical fires, some of which are believed to have been caused by unqualified individuals carrying out electrical work, according to LERC.
Katta urged the companies to use the licenses to expand their businesses, create jobs and support economic development.
The licensees welcomed the move, saying it would help raise professional standards in Liberia’s electrical industry.
LERC said more electrical professionals and contractors will be certified and licensed in the coming months as it strengthens regulatory oversight of the sector.
