The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has awarded a distinguished scholarship to a Liberian student for advanced maritime studies at Dalian University in the People’s Republic of China, underscoring Liberia’s commitment to building a world‑class maritime workforce.
The recipient, chosen through a rigorous and competitive vetting process, will depart Liberia on August 30, 2026, to pursue a master’s degree in advanced Maritime Studies. The program is expected to equip the student with specialized knowledge and technical expertise to meet the demands of an increasingly complex global shipping industry.
Dalian University is internationally recognized as a premier institution for maritime education and research, offering cutting‑edge academic and professional training tailored to the evolving needs of the sector.
The scholarship was made possible through the Government of China, reflecting deepening cooperation between Liberia and China in maritime education, human‑resource development, and capacity building.
Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of LiMA, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., hailed the award as a milestone in Liberia’s maritime training agenda. “This scholarship represents an important opportunity for quality maritime education. The strength and competitiveness of Liberia’s maritime sector depend on the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of our people,” he stated.
