The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs and new customer connection fees for customers within LIBENERGY licensed service areas.

The Commission has approved a new three-year electricity tariff for LIBENERGY customers in Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and River Gee Counties, as well as Tappita in Nimba County.

Under the newly approved tariff, the energy charge has been reduced by 12 percent, from US$0.25 to US$0.22 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Additionally, the cost of a new single-phase electricity connection has been reduced by approximately 64 percent, from US$110 to US$40, making electricity connections more affordable for prospective customers.

Speaking on the approved reductions, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Claude J. Katta, emphasized that LIBENERGY is required to fully comply with and implement the newly approved tariff and connection fees, effective November 1, 2026.

As the statutory regulator of the electricity sector, LERC expects all regulated service providers to comply with its decisions, directives, and approved regulatory instruments. The Commission will closely monitor LIBENERGY’s compliance to ensure that consumers within its licensed service areas benefit from the approved reductions.

“Making electricity more affordable, particularly for people living in rural Liberia, is an important step toward improving livelihoods, supporting small businesses, and stimulating economic activities in our communities. The Commission’s commitment is to ensure that electricity services are affordable, reliable, and accessible to all,” Chairman Katta stated.

The newly approved tariff took effect on November 1, 2026, and will remain in force through October 31, 2029.

These reductions are consistent with the Government of Liberia’s broader efforts to improve electricity affordability, strengthen service delivery, and expand access to electricity across the country.

LERC encourages electricity consumers, particularly existing and prospective LIBENERGY customers, to familiarize themselves with the newly approved charges. Consumers seeking further information or clarification are encouraged to contact the Commission through its regional office or official communication channels.
