Samuel Jackson, the man police have named main suspect in the death of his wife has been released after spending more than 48 hours in detention and has not been charge for any crime. South African lawyer Ntombi Khumalo Jackson, locally known as Toni, was found dead in her home in Monrovia.

Khumalo Jackson died after suffering severe head injuries that required emergency brain surgery.

Samuel Jackson told authorities he found his wife semi-conscious in their bedroom after returning home from a television talk show engagement.

She was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where doctors performed brain surgery, but she later died from her injuries.

The case has drawn widespread attention after graphic images allegedly showing Khumalo Jackson bruised and battered circulated on social media.

The images were later shared by a close friend who accused her husband of being responsible for her death.

“I’ve changed my mind after seeing the graphic images of your suffering,” the friend wrote in a post accompanying the images.

“May your spirit not rest but put up one last fight from beyond the grave to help put your evil killer behind bars or suffer the same fate.

“May your brutally slain soul, so far away from your home soil, thinking you’re with someone who’ll love and protect you, find eternal rest.”

Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman has declared the matter an active homicide case. Since launching probe on March 13, in Monrovia, authorities have not been able to determine the cause of death. Police framed circumstances leading to the lady passing as suspected act of domestic violence.

Jackson continues to maintain his innocent although a man portraying himself as friend to the couple, took to Facebook accusing Sam of murdering his wife. The police have not charged the accused of any crime.

Jackson has disclosed his late wife had documented instances of seizures.

Results from autopsy conducted late Monday night remain unknown to the public. Authorities have not said how long it would take to medically establish the cause of death. Jackson and lawyers have applied with the Attorney General office to hire independent investigator and pathologist to examine the matter.

Originally from Gauteng, Khumalo Jackson was an accomplished legal professional.

She held multiple academic qualifications, including a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), a Bachelor of Commerce in Law and two Master of Science degrees from the University of Pretoria.

She later qualified as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and founded NK Attorneys, a Johannesburg-based law firm specialising in litigation and corporate advisory services.

Beyond the legal profession, she was also an entrepreneur and cultural figure.

Liberian authorities say autopsy results and forensic evidence will be crucial in determining whether formal charges will be laid.
