Beijing, China – Liberia’s Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Information Johnny S. Tarkpah, has stepped onto the global stage, representing Liberia at the prestigious 7th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation, held August 19–21, 2025.
The high-profile gathering, organized under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), unites media and audiovisual leaders from across Africa and China to forge stronger ties and chart the future of global communications.
This year’s theme, “Share Development Opportunities, Shape the Audio-Visual Future,” underscores the urgency of harnessing technology to transform storytelling and information exchange.
Deputy Minister Tarkpah’s mission in Beijing is clear: to secure enhanced professional media development opportunities for Liberia and to champion the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge communication technologies into the nation’s media landscape.
In bilateral meetings with Chinese authorities, Tarkpah is expected to press for support that will empower Liberia to modernize its media sector, strengthen public information systems, and combat the rising tide of misinformation.
“Embracing AI and emerging media tools is not optional—it is essential,” Tarkpah emphasized, highlighting the transformative potential of digital innovation in creating opportunities for young Liberians. His vision places Liberia at the forefront of Africa’s digital revolution, where technology becomes a weapon against disinformation and a bridge to global competitiveness.
The forum’s agenda is packed with initiatives designed to deepen collaboration, including the China-Africa Audiovisual Programme Exchange, the China-Africa Audiovisual Youth Co-Creation Initiative, and the China Visit Program for African Media Practitioners. These platforms promise to amplify African voices, foster youth creativity, and strengthen cross continental partnerships in the fast-evolving media space.
By participating in this landmark forum, Deputy Minister Tarkpah positions Liberia as a bold advocate for innovation and cooperation. His presence signals Liberia’s determination to seize the opportunities of the digital age, ensuring that the nation’s media sector not only survives but thrives in a rapidly changing global environment.
