With the rainy season fast approaching, residents of Electoral District #2 are sounding the alarm over the worsening condition of the primary road linking Ziah Town to the rest of Grand Gedeh County.
Community members warn that unless urgent rehabilitation begins, the district risks isolation. The deteriorating road has long been a source of frustration, but locals say the situation has reached a crisis point. Rising transport costs, disrupted daily activities, and restricted access to healthcare are among the anticipated consequences once heavy rains set in. Motorists and pedestrians alike face mounting safety hazards.
Residents describe the road as a lifeline for trade, travel, and emergency services. When rains intensify, vehicles often struggle to navigate the muddy, broken terrain. Prices for food and essential goods typically spike, while medical supplies and services become harder to reach. “We are worried that this year could be worse than ever,” one resident remarked, noting that the community has endured years of neglect.
Calls for action are directed at District Representative Marie G. Johnson, as well as private companies and humanitarian organizations. Locals insist that only a coordinated effort can prevent the road from becoming impassable.
Speaking from Konobo Boundary Town, resident Willie Gaye Sr. expressed frustration at the lack of progress. “The road condition is deteriorating, and nothing is being done about it,” he said. Gaye urged authorities and aid groups to provide equipment and resources to stabilize the route before the rains arrive.
Despite the grim outlook, residents remain hopeful that their appeals will be heard. Community leaders stress that swift intervention could avert a transport collapse and preserve access to markets, schools, and clinics.
For now, the district waits anxiously, watching the skies and the crumbling road beneath their feet. Whether relief comes in time may determine if Ziah Town remains connected — or cut off — during the months ahead.
