Boakai In Ghana to Address Justice Conference

The Conference serves as a follow-up to United Nations Resolution A/RES/80/250 on the Transatlantic Slave Trade, adopted on March 25, 2026. The landmark resolution recognizes the trafficking and enslavement of Africans as among the gravest crimes against humanity and underscores the need for sustained international engagement on reparatory justice.

President Joseph Boakai departed Liberia for Accra, Ghana, where he will participate in a two-day High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparatory Justice convened by President John Dramani Mahama of the Republic of Ghana.

The Conference serves as a follow-up to United Nations Resolution A/RES/80/250 on the Transatlantic Slave Trade, adopted on March 25, 2026. The landmark resolution recognizes the trafficking and enslavement of Africans as among the gravest crimes against humanity and underscores the need for sustained international engagement on reparatory justice.

The historic gathering will bring together Heads of State and Government, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, global reparations experts, renowned attorneys, eminent scholars, civil society organizations, and representatives of the African Union (AU), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and various United Nations agencies.

In recognition of Liberia’s historical significance and President Boakai’s leadership on issues of justice, reconciliation, and African solidarity, President Mahama has invited President Boakai to serve as a member of the Global Advisory Panel on Reparatory Justice. The Panel is envisioned as a high-level body of eminent leaders tasked with providing strategic guidance and advancing the implementation of the United Nations resolution.

President Boakai has also been accorded the distinction of serving as a Special Guest of the Conference and will deliver the Keynote Address during the Opening Ceremony, where he is expected to articulate Africa’s collective aspirations for justice, historical accountability, and sustainable partnerships for future generations.

The Liberian Chief Executive is accompanied to this Conference by a few top level government officials, including Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, National Security Advisor, Cllr. Samuel Kofi Woods, Director-General of the Cabinet Nathaniel Kwabo, and Liberian Maritime Commissioner Neto Zaza Lighe.

While the President is away, the Minister of Justice & Attorney General, Cllr. Natu Oswald Tweh, Sr. will chair the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, while remaining in contact with the President, the Executive Mansion said.
