The landmark event unfolded on Saturday, June 27, 2026, during RMU’s 20th graduation ceremony, where the LiMA-sponsored students received master’s and bachelor’s degrees after years of rigorous study. Their success underscores Liberia’s unwavering commitment to cultivating a new generation of maritime professionals capable of steering both national progress and global industry demands.

Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of LiMA, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., hailed the achievement as a defining moment in Liberia’s maritime journey. “This milestone, which has seen thirteen Liberians graduate with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in specialized maritime disciplines, is a testament to our commitment to building a competent workforce for Liberia and the global maritime industry,” he declared.

Liberia, custodian of the world’s largest ship registry, carries a unique responsibility to produce highly skilled professionals who can uphold its international reputation. Commissioner Lighe emphasized that sustained investment in education and training is vital to maintaining Liberia’s leadership in the global maritime arena. Through scholarships, professional development, and strategic partnerships with institutions like RMU, LiMA continues to expand opportunities for young Liberians to thrive in an increasingly competitive industry.

The graduates’ triumph is more than an academic milestone—it is a national investment. Armed with internationally recognized qualifications, they now shoulder the responsibility of advancing Liberia’s maritime sector while embodying professionalism and integrity. Commissioner Lighe urged them to apply their knowledge with dedication, ensuring Liberia’s continued prominence in global shipping.

Among the graduates, twelve earned Master of Arts degrees in Port and Shipping Administration: Ms. Geneve T. Bantu, Jeremy George, Booker Dabowoe Harvey, Jr., Jenevee Jacobs, Aloysius W. Kpogbah, Willimina Zoe Varney, Esmond Ceidee Wulue, Dorgas Diggs, Boima Macdonald Freeman, George G. Kiadii, Siaffa Abu Konteh, and Curtis Payne. Spurgeon Clarence Capehart completed a Master’s in International Shipping and Logistics, while Tokpah James, Jr. and Emric Howard distinguished themselves with Bachelor of Science degrees in Marine Engineering (Honors) and Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Honors), respectively.

RMU’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks, Jr., revealed that a total of 368 students graduated across diverse disciplines, highlighting the university’s role as a regional hub for maritime excellence.

For Liberia, however, the spotlight shone brightest on its thirteen scholars. Their graduation symbolizes LiMA’s relentless pursuit of maritime empowerment and its vision of positioning Liberia as a global leader not only in ship registry but also in maritime expertise.
