Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Koung has responded to viral claims that he was subjected to an extreme security search at an airport in Brussels, suggesting that he traveled through the regular passenger route rather than using an official or diplomatic channel.
An anonymous caller told Radio Kings FM on Tuesday that the vice president had undergone an intensive search that allegedly included the removal of his shirt.
Responding to the claim, Koung said he had previously traveled on a private jet belonging to a friend but chose to use a commercial route during his most recent trip.
“In 2024, I flew on a private jet belonging to a friend of mine, free of charge, and there were issues and discussions,” Koung said. “This trip, I chose to use the regular route that everyone uses to pick up a few things for my daughter from the Duty-Free stores, and again there are discussions.”
The vice president denied that he was forced to remove his shoes or jacket during the airport screening.
“No shoes, no jacket was removed,” he said, adding, “Again, this is the effect of the package.”
Koung’s remarks appeared to indicate that his decision to travel through the regular passenger channel, rather than by private jet or through an official queue, may have resulted in him being processed like an ordinary traveler.
However, he did not provide further details about the nature of the screening or directly address the claim that he was asked to remove his shirt.
