The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is participating in the 16th INTERPOL Match-Fixing Task Force Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation in combating corruption, match-fixing, and related transnational crimes.
The three-day meeting, taking place from October 27 to 29, 2026, brings together law enforcement professionals and anti-corruption experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas to exchange knowledge and develop strategies aimed at tackling the growing threat of match-fixing in sports and illegal activities linked to the gaming and betting industries.
Representing the LACC at the global forum is the Commission’s Chief of Investigation, Abraham B. Sheriff, who is engaging with international counterparts on emerging trends, investigative techniques, and collaborative approaches to addressing sports-related corruption.
A key focus of the discussions is the identification of match-fixing indicators in both traditional sports and the rapidly expanding esports sector. Participants are being equipped with practical tools and strategies to detect suspicious activities, strengthen investigations, and improve responses to increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
The meeting also underscores the importance of cross-border cooperation in confronting corruption and preserving the integrity of sports worldwide. Experts have emphasized that effective enforcement requires strong partnerships, intelligence-sharing, and coordinated action among national and international institutions.
The LACC welcomed the opportunity to participate in the high-level engagement, noting that insights gained from the forum will contribute to its ongoing efforts to strengthen anti-corruption measures in Liberia.
The Commission expressed appreciation to INTERPOL and the organizers of the annual meeting for their continued collaboration, recognition of the LACC’s work, and invitation to join the discussions.
According to the Commission, participation in international platforms such as the INTERPOL Match-Fixing Task Force meeting is essential to enhancing investigative capacity and ensuring that Liberia remains engaged in global efforts to combat corruption in all its forms.
The LACC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity across all sectors of society.
