Abner Yonly, a young pilot of Liberian descent made the headlines after completing a historic solo transatlantic flight in a single-engine aircraft from North America to Africa.
He touched down in Liberia Thursday to thunderous applause from a jubilant crowd of family members, friends and well-wishers.
Abner Yonly was born and raised in Liberia. His solo flight began October 27 in the US state of Maryland. He made stops in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Morocco, Senegal and Sierra Leone before finally landing in his native Liberia.
Abner says the purpose of his adventure is to motivate young Africans to develop an interest in aviation.
