Liberia: Snowe Proffers Tourism Bill

Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe has submitted to the plenary of the Liberian Senate the Liberia Tourism Authority bill.

The former speaker of the House of Representatives said the bill seeks to amend Chapter 31 of the Executive law of 1972 to establish the Liberia Tourism Authority.

Senator Snowe told the plenary of the Liberian Senate that the Liberia Tourism act of 2020 was passed by the 54th Legislature which has now been re-introduced for passage by the 55th Legislature as the Liberia Tourism act of 2024.

The Bomi County lawmaker noted the act when passed into law, will envision to serve as the principal  government agency charged with the responsibility to encourage, promote, develop, and regulate tourism as a major socio’ economic activity so as to improve livelihoods, generate employment as well as revenue and project the tourism sector of Liberia.

Senator Snowe emphasized that the establishment of the Liberia Tourism Authority like other developing  countries will create and improve Liberia’s image as a tourism destination both domestically and internationally.

Meanwhile, plenary voted overwhelmingly that the Senate’s Judiciary and Information Committees were mandated by the Liberian Senate to advise plenary on a submission.

“It will also promote the development and expansion of the tourism Industry in Liberia, attract foreign exchange earnings as well Promote high standards in the tourism industry through training and resource development among others,” Snowe said during the presentation of the bill in plenary.
