Lawrence M. Fahnbulleh, the Public Affairs Director of the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to journalism during the Ebola crisis in Liberia.
Fahnbulleh was awarded the Ebola Media Excellence Award for his efforts in organizing daily National Press Conferences and raising media awareness about the dangers and preventive measures of Ebola during the crisis.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Monrovia City Hall Ballroom, hosted by the Shirley Noel Group in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Liberian Medical and Dental Council (LMDC).
This was the first national awards ceremony of its kind since the deadly Ebola crisis that claimed many lives in Liberia. The event aimed to honor 70 members of the country’s six health associations under the LMDC banner for their exceptional contributions to healthcare services during the Ebola crisis.
During the award presentation, Dr. Benetta Collins Andrews, the head of the LMDC, highlighted that due to the risky nature of Fahnbulleh’s job during the height of the Ebola and COVID-19 crises, a crew from France 24 traveled to Liberia to document his work and sacrifices.
To acknowledge the significant contributions he made during that crucial time, the organizers decided to honor and commend his work.
This award comes just a month after Fahnbulleh received the Joe Wolubah Mulbah Golden Image Award in Journalism by the Crusader for Peace during the July 26th celebrations.
In his acceptance speech, Fahnbulleh expressed his gratitude for the award and pledged to continue assisting those in need as opportunities arise.
The event was attended by local and international partners, as well as former and current government officials, who celebrated the achievements of the Liberian healthcare community.
The Ebola Media Excellence Award is a testament to Fahnbulleh’s dedication and commitment to informing the public and raising awareness during the Ebola crisis, which played a crucial role in the country’s response and recovery efforts.
