In a bid to promote peace and unity across Liberia, the African Youth Fellowship (AYF) Liberia, a youth-led national organization, is set to host the highly anticipated “Run4Peace/Walk” event. The event will begin at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town and conclude at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, the one-day event is expected to attract over 500 participants, including youth groups, students, women, community leaders, as well as national and international organizations from Montserrado County.

The Run4Peace event comes at a pivotal time, as Liberia celebrates 21 years of uninterrupted peace since the end of its 14-year civil war. Organized under the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” the initiative aims to raise awareness about the critical role each individual plays in maintaining peace and fostering national cohesion.

According to Moses Buwee, Founder of AYF Liberia, the event is not just a physical activity but a platform for citizens to reflect on Liberia’s peace journey and their shared responsibility to protect it. “Our goal is to unite Liberians from all walks of life in the spirit of peace and reconciliation. “We are running not just for fitness but to demonstrate that peace is everyone’s business, Buwee emphasized.

Amb. Buwee further revealed that the event will be graced by dignitaries including the U.S. Ambassador, the EU Ambassador, the ECOWAS Ambassador, Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Nobel Peace Laureate Madam Leymah Gbowee. Their presence, along with other international and local organizations, underscores the significance of this event and Liberia’s commitment to long-term peacebuilding.

The event will officially kick off at 7:00 AM from the Ministerial Complex, concluding with a formal program at the SKD Sports Complex. As Liberia continues its post-conflict journey, the Run4Peace event will serve as a symbol of hope, unity, and a renewed commitment to a peaceful future.

Amb. Buwee call on all Liberians, young and old, from every corner of society-to join the Run4Peace event. Whether you’re a student, community leader, or simply a citizen who values peace, your presence will help send a powerful message that peace is the foundation of Liberia’s future.

He further explained that the event is a reminder of over two decades of peace and it is every Liberian’s responsibility to safeguard and nurture it.  He encouraged all Liberians to come together on September 21, 2024, to run for peace, unity, and the future of our nation.
