Liberia: Internal Affairs Minister Unites Rival Bassa Politicians

Must read

Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin has called for peace and reconciliation among the citizens of Grand Bassa County, challenging the region’s Legislative Caucus to spearhead the reunification effort.

Speaking at the induction ceremony for newly appointed Superintendent Karyou Johnson over the weekend, Minister Nyumalin emphasized the importance of solidarity in moving the county forward.

Minister Nyumalin appealed particularly to Grand Bassa’s two senators, Gbezongar Finley and Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, urging them to set aside their differences for the benefit of the county.

In a symbolic gesture, he referred to Senator Finley as “Adam” and Senator Lawrence as “Eve,” sparking a moment of unity that concluded with the two lawmakers sharing a warm embrace.

In addition to advocating reconciliation, Minister Nyumalin discussed significant developments for Grand Bassa County, revealing a partnership regarding the disposal of iron ore deposits at the Port of Buchana.

He announced that an agreement has been reached with a company committed to establishing a steel factory in the county. This project aims to transform raw iron from ArcelorMittal into finished products, rather than exporting unprocessed ore.

As part of the agreement, the company has already deposited $400,000 into the Grand Bassa County account, earmarked for local development initiatives.

Newly inducted Superintendent Karyou Johnson responded affirmatively, pledging to collaborate closely with the Legislative Caucus and the County Council to implement various projects effectively.

He emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability in managing the county’s resources, assuring residents that all funds will be accounted for during his administration.

The optimism surrounding Minister Nyumalin’s call for unity and the new projects set to benefit Grand Bassa County offers hope for a more harmonious and prosperous region.
