The Independent Information Commission (IIC) under its outreach program had convened a day-long Freedom of Information law workshop with members of its community-based satellite cells in the Du Port Community, District #6, Montserrado County.
The workshop had brought together several participants including marketers, teachers, students as well as community leaders.
The IIC’S Outreach Director, Mr. Simmie S. Nyanfor has called on community leaders to develop strategic interests in encouraging community dwellers to learn about the application of the Freedom of Information law of Liberia.
The IIC’S Director of Outreach admonished participates to impact their community by their action, sharing with others as they learned fresh ideas concerning the use of the FOI law.
According to Mr. Nyanfor, the essence of the Freedom of Information law campaign is to educate the public about how to apply the law and get the ultimate outcome of ensuring compliance.
However, several topics were presented are overview of the FOI law, followed by questions and answers section. the appeal process under the FOI law, and conclusion, which includes recommendations as the way forward.
