The ruling Unity Party (UP) has suspended 28 senior government officials from its National Executive Committee (NEC) for what it describes as “persistent delinquency” and failure to fulfill core party obligations.

The suspended officials—comprising cabinet ministers, lawmakers, agency heads, and presidential advisors—have been fined US$1,000 each, payable to the party’s account within one month. The disciplinary action, announced in a press release issued Sunday afternoon in Monrovia, follows repeated absences from NEC meetings and continued disengagement from party activities, despite multiple reminders.

High-Profile Figures Sanctioned are: Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Lands and Mines Minister Wilmot J.M. Paye, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Presidential Press Secretary Kula B. Fofana, Internal Affairs Minister and Nimba County Senator Nya D. Twayen Jr. Presidential Legal Advisor Cllr. Bushuben M. Keita and among ohers.
The Unity Party cited Articles 19 and 16, Subsection 4 of its Constitution as the legal basis for the sanctions. The resolution stipulates that failure to pay the fine within the suspension period will result in expulsion from the NEC.
Broader Accountability Measures
The party’s Special Sitting also resolved to enforce dues collection from all delinquent members. Those failing to settle outstanding dues within one month will face “serious consequences,” in accordance with party regulations.
“Their suspension comes as a result of the persistent failure of the affected NEC members to attend official meetings of the National Executive Committee and their continuous neglect in participating in party activities,” the statement reads. “These acts of noncompliance and absenteeism represent a breach of trust and a violation of the obligations of every NEC member to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the party.”
The Unity Party reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, unity, and collective responsibility, emphasizing that institutional strength depends on active participation and financial contributions from its members.
