Former allies and associates of ex-president George Weah have established a political movement to back incumbent President Joseph Boakai amidst the 81-year-old rumored second-term bid.
President Boakai on Wednesday, December 24, dedicated the newly constructed headquarters of the National Independent Movement for Boakai (NIMBO) in Voinjama, Lofa County, at the official launch of the Organization, the presidency said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
“The headquarters was constructed through the initiative of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Thomas P. Fallah, who led the establishment of the Movement with the aim of mobilizing independent supporters to line up behind in support of the President’s national development agenda.
“Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai expressed appreciation to Deputy Speaker Fallah and members of the Movement for their support, noting that national progress requires collective effort beyond political affiliation. He emphasized that Liberia’s development must be driven by unity, shared responsibility, and a commitment to the common good.”
The President called on Liberians from all walks of life to put aside divisions and work together to advance peace, stability, and inclusive development across the country. He stressed that the task of rebuilding and strengthening Liberia belongs to all citizens, regardless of political or social differences.
President Boakai further encouraged the leadership and membership of the National Independent Movement for Boakai to remain focused on promoting national cohesion, civic responsibility, and development-oriented engagement at the community level.
For his part, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah said the establishment of the headquarters and the launch of the Movement reflect the confidence of independent Liberians in President Boakai’s leadership and vision for the country. He noted that the Movement will work across counties to support initiatives that contribute to national unity and sustainable development.
The dedication ceremony was attended by local authorities, traditional leaders, members of the Legislature, supporters of the Movement, and citizens of Lofa County, who welcomed the President and reaffirmed their commitment to Liberia’s progress.
