The dawn of 2026 may have lacked the brilliance of past New Year’s mornings, but at the Comfort K. Toe Orphanage in Christopolis Community, Brewerville, the day was illuminated by compassion. Forty-three children, aged six to fifteen, welcomed the Family Union Organization with songs of joy as a convoy of vehicles carrying food and essential supplies rolled into the compound.

Founded in 2022, Family Union (FU) is a social welfare organization committed to humanitarian service. Its leadership chose to mark the New Year by spending the day with the children, delivering both material support and moments of happiness.

FU Chairman Tialah M. Toby explained that the initiative was designed to share the beauty of the season with the children. “We came to bring items that will support their daily needs and remind them they are not forgotten,” he said.

Secretary General Marlene Tokpa, who also serves on the Program Committee, noted that the orphanage was carefully selected for the outreach. “We are here to play games, share joy, and present nicely prepared snacks and Family Union–branded juices,” she said, drawing cheers from the children.

The donation included ten bags of rice, a bag of flour, cartons of copybooks, a 100-pound sack of cornmeal, cartons of soap, a 100-pound bag of sugar, detergents, 25 kilograms of pinto beans, Argo oil, cartons of wheat, and a bag of footwear.

Vice Chairman Nyantee Jeh underscored the organization’s broader vision. “We have come to identify with you. These children are part of us. We consider them the future of Liberia,” he said.

The day was not only about supplies. Recreational activities led by FU Advisory Committee member Olivia D. White brought laughter and excitement. Riddles, musical chairs, and other games left smiles etched across the faces of the children, reinforcing the spirit of celebration.

Orphanage Director Stanley Weefar expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the gesture as deeply moving. “You have touched our hearts with joy. We are entering the New Year with happiness and blessings,” he said. Weefar recalled that the orphanage was built in the early 2000s by Irish peacekeepers, noting that Family Union’s visit carried a similar spirit of peace and goodwill.

Twelve-year-old Konah Johnson, speaking on behalf of the children, thanked the organization and offered prayers for its continued success.

The outreach further cements Family Union’s reputation as a rising humanitarian force in Brewerville. In previous years, the group partnered with the JFK Medical Center Eye Clinic to provide free eye testing for residents of Christian Community and surrounding neighborhoods in Parker Corner.

By blending material support with emotional uplift, Family Union’s New Year initiative demonstrated the power of community solidarity. For the children of Comfort K. Toe Orphanage, the day was more than a celebration—it was a reminder that they are valued, loved, and part of Liberia’s future.
