The Supreme Court has denied the petition for a Writ of Prohibition submitted by the United Methodist Church (UMC) and has subsequently lifted the restrictions concerning the use of the property by the Global Methodist Church (GMC). This decision unequivocally affirms the GMC’s entitlement to possess, occupy, and utilize the Ganta Mission property.

Acting through the Justice in Chambers, the Supreme Court of Liberia has promptly annulled the prohibition on all activities of the GMC within the Gompa District area in Nimba County.

This decision follows a prior action by the High Court on Tuesday, which had enacted a prohibition order preventing parties from taking possession of disputed properties in Ganta, including the Methodist School and Hospital, until a conference between the United Methodist Church and the Global Methodist Church could be convened.

The Gompa District of the United Methodist Church had asserted legal ownership of the properties currently occupied by the GMC in Ganta City, contending that the breakaway denomination lacked legal authority over the assets.

However, subsequent to a conference held later on the same day, the Supreme Court lifted the restriction, granting the Global Methodist Church the legal right to resume all activities in the Gompa District.

The ruling effectively permits the GMC to assume possession of the properties in question, pending any further legal adjudication.

The court’s decision facilitates the convergence of thousands of GMC members in Ganta for the church’s first annual conference, scheduled from Wednesday, February 25, to Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The gathering is anticipated to unite pastors, church leaders, foreign guests, and members from across the nation to reflect on the church’s one-year journey, evaluate institutional progress, and outline its strategic direction for the forthcoming years.
