Many Liberians   are appealing to the government to lift the suspension placed on TIA (Telecom International Alliance) to enhance best business practice in the Telecommunications sector.

The calls were made last week on a number of local radio stations during a live phone talk show program.

“This is about time for the government to look into this TIA concession.  If you look at it technically, simiar things have happed to  some companies in the country,” Robert Johnson, a resident of King Gray remark on Truth FM.

Another caller, Jasper Kollie from Browerville added: WE think this is not good business practice to disallowed one party that has pending contract to be put off.   I will recommend that the gov3rnment should look at the recommendations of the legislature committee report.

Five other callers made similar statement. “This is time for the government to look at the recommendations made by both houses.  For me, I think the government should call TIA and  renegotiate the concession. Let the government tell them what is needed,” Madam Mary Anderson, a student at the University of Liberia reading management said.

“Usually, the best thing to do is to call all parties as government and site down to discuss it. Where you are not satisfied make the necessary changes where applicable.

For his part, Matthew Sumo, a junior student at the University of Liberia said, “concession is a law. You have not cancelled the old one and you want to give it over to the company? This is not a good way to do business,” he said.

It can be recalled that President Joseph N. Boakai, in a communication dated November 13, 2025, addressed to Honorable Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, notified the 55th Legislature of the Executive’s decision to suspend the Telecom International Alliance (TIA) /Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Agreement, ratified by the 53rd Legislature in 2022, for Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring Services and requested the 55th Legislature due to some irregularities.

Following a review, a joint committee was set up to review and make recommendations.

The committee recommended that the contract be reinitiated rather than decertify it. But there are reports that LTA wants to bring a new company into the market-NUMTEL Liberia for the same services; even though TIA contract still exists.
