Tony Elumelu’s UBA launches $6 Billion initiative for African SMEs

United Bank of Africa (UBA) has launched a $6 billion financing initiative with the goal of promoting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the African continent. This initiative is designed to provide funding access to SMEs in the Agro-processing, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive, Transport, and Logistics sectors, facilitating their expansion. UBA has partnered with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat to launch the financing initiative. This initiative would deliver $6 billion in funding to eligible SMEs throughout Africa over the next three years.

CEMENCO launches low-cost Superplast 22.5X product in Liberia

Liberia Cement Corporation (CEMENCO) has introduced Superplast 22.5X, a new product that is specifically designed for use in plastering and laying blocks and tiles. Speaking at the launch on 25 September 2023, William Gaignard, CEMENCO’s General Manager, emphasised the historic importance of this product, highlighting its overall affordability, making it accessible for all Liberians to build their homes at a lower cost.

Bomi Citizens Hail Western Cluster Support to Community

At the end of the two-community tournament in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Western Cluster Limited received commendation from Tubmanburg City Mayor for being the highest contributor to the tournament.  The Tubmanburg traditional tournament ended Sunday September 3, 2023. The tournament started in July this year with more than twenty-five communities from Tubmanburg City participating. 

Liberia Civil Society Group Applauds Lawmakers for Extending Bea Mountain’s Mining Contract

The National Civil Society Union of Liberia, has welcomed the signing into law of the Mineral Development Agreement of Bea Mountain Mining Company – a multinational concessionaire operating in Grand Cape Mount County; Western Liberia. In a press statement issued in Monrovia recently, the civil rights organization commended Bea Mountain Mining Company for ensuring that its new agreement was taken to the people of Grand Cape Mount County for their inputs, which was successfully done and the citizens understood and accepted amendments to the previous contract, which they now say is in their interest.

Court Orders Global Bank ‘to Pay US$2.5 Million to Monco Liberia

The Sixth Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice has found Global Bank Liberia Limited guilty and ordered the bank to pay  $2.5 million United States dollars as general damages to the Management of Monco Liberia Limited in an action of damages for wrong lawsuit filed by the company. "Wherefore and in view of the foregoing, it is the holding of this court that defendant (bank) be adjudged liable to the 1st plaintiff (Monco Liberia), in the action of damages for wrong. The defendant, Global Bank is ruled to pay the amount of two million five hundred thousand United States dollars (US 2,500,000.00) as general damages to 1st plaintiff," the assigned Circuit Judge of the Civil Law Court, Nelson B. Chineh said in his ruling on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Boakai Faults Multinational Corporations, Government for Poor Natural Resource Management

Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Boakai has condemned the acts of extracting resources from Liberia with no regards to the development of communities from which these resources are taken. He said even the roads leading to these mines are impassable while citizens of these areas continue to live in abject poverty.
