President Joseph Boakai’s administration suffered a major setback on Monday as a task force established to investigate illicit wealth confessed to acting outside the law and unlawfully seizing properties based on suspicion.
Yussif Kaba, the Associate Supreme Court Justice presiding in Chambers ordered the Assets Recovery Team to proceed in keeping with after a local transportation company, Gracious Ride, filed a complaint stating that their rights were violated during the forceful seizure of their fleet of vehicles.
The Supreme Court ordered the Assets Recovery Team to adhere to legal procedures following the complaint. Team Leader Edward Martin justified the impounding of the vehicles, citing President Boakai’s Executive Order 126 which established the Office of Assets Recovery.
Documents presented during the court hearing revealed that the cars were acquired by Anita Group of Companies, with incorporation linked to Pamela Anita Jallah, believed to be the daughter of Finda Bondo, a former presidential aide during the George Weah era.
Martin assured the court that his team would conduct a proper legal investigation into the matter.
