A nine-member delegation from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Lesotho arrives in Liberia tomorrow, Wednesday, 14 August 2024 for a week-long Study Tour as guest of the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia.
The study tour is in preparation for the conduct of a possible first-time National Referendum in that country.
A dispatch from Lesotho says, NEC-Liberia was selected amongst African Elections Management Bodies (EMBs) that have undergone referendum between 2010 to 2024.
NEC in a release issued today, Tuesday 13 August 2024 quotes the dispatch, as saying that NEC-Liberia was found to be the most appropriate EMB for the study tour based on a desk finding for a desk review.
The dispatch from Lesotho names areas of interest for the study tour as Referendum and Legislation, Voter Education, Conduct of elections, and stakeholders’ engagements.
Other areas of interest for the Lesotho Electoral Commission include Ballot Paper, voting process, counting process Announcement of results and petitions, and Overall challenges encountered during the process.
While in Liberia, the Lesotho delegation is expected to hold talks with members of the Board of Commissioners of NEC and Senior Technicians, several civil society organizations, and the Speaker and Presiding Officer of the House of Representatives.
