Cletus Segbe Wotorson, a distinguished Liberian geophysicist and politician, has passed away at the age of 87. Wotorson, who served as the Senate Pro-Tempore from 2009 to 2012, was a respected figure in Liberia’s political and academic landscape.
Born in Liberia, Wotorson dedicated his career to both public service and the advancement of geophysical science. He held the position of Minister of Lands and Mines from 1978 to 1980 and later served as the CEO of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) from 1980 to 1983.
Wotorson’s contributions extended beyond the realm of government. He was an assistant professor emeritus of Geology, sharing his expertise with the next generation of Liberian scholars.
In 1997, he participated in the presidential election as the standard bearer of the Alliance of Political Parties (LAP-LUP), finishing fourth out of 13 candidates.
The news of Wotorson’s passing has been met with profound sorrow within the Liberian community. His family has confirmed his death, mourning the loss of a respected statesman and a pioneering figure in Liberian geophysics and politics.
“You lived an accomplished life,” Jenkins Pelena who worked with fallen Senator at the Capitol said in a Facebook post.
“At 87 years of Age, it is a life well lived as he covered four scores and seven. Sleep well boss and father and may our Lord grant on you eternal rest.”
