The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday and Tuesday, September 30, and October 1, 2024 respectively, held a two-day Review and validation meetings were held in Monrovia to review and validate the NAP Agriculture Sector Key Performance Indicators.
The NAP Global Network provided the financial support through the short-term technical support to Liberia to implement, and track the progress of Liberia’s NAP implementations.
During the opening session, Mr. Arthur R.M. Becker, Coordinator of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements and National Focal Point of Liberia’s NAP reiterated the importance of the Key Performance Indicators of the NAP Agriculture Sector to the MEL of Liberia.
Speaking further he appreciated the NAP Global Network for their continual support to the EPA through the government of Liberia. He said due to limited funding opportunities from the NAP Global Network, the funding support provided was being used to develop the IP, KPIs and the data tracking tools for one of the six sectors of Liberia’s NAP.
In the future, with more funding support, the rest of the five sectors IPs, KPIs and data tracking tools will be developed. He then concluded by calling on the participants to cease the opportunity and review and validate the document.
The two-day Regional meeting was convened in Monrovia and attended by 30 participants in Monrovia. 20 participants attended from Monrovia, while 10 participants came from outside Monrovia. The participants were invited from the Agriculture Ministry, National Fisheries Aquaculture Authority, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Agriculture extension personnel or agents from outpost, Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection and other relevant agencies.
The Regional validation meeting was called to order by Aaron S.M. Wesseh, National Consultants. Speaking at the opening session, Aaron S.M. Wesseh urged all participants most especially the participants from the Agriculture sector to be very keen in the review of the draft NAP Agriculture Sector KPIs and make the necessary inputs for its validation.
Concluding, he urged the participants to be nationalistic and patriotic during the validation meetings as they were the privileged few to be invited to act on behalf of the 5.5 million people of Liberia.
Following the opening formalities, Mr. David Mulbah, the consultant hired to develop the IP, KPIs and data tracking tools for the NAP agriculture sector presented the draft key performance indicators to the participants.
Prior to his presentation, he made the participants understand that the key performance indicators were developed from the NAP Agriculture Implementation Plan that was earlier validated a few weeks ago. According to him, the KPIs were developed from the IP.
Mr. Mulbah during his presentation further said that the NAP Agriculture KPIs will ensure the monitoring and tracking of achievements made in the implementation of the resilient actions set in the NAP agriculture sector.
The NAP Global Network provided short-term support to the EPA through the government of Liberia to enhance Liberia climate change resilience.
The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network is a multi-funder initiative that was created in 2014 to support developing countries in advancing their NAP processes and help accelerate adaptation efforts around the world.
Financial support for the Network has been provided by Austria, Canada, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The Secretariat is hosted by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD).
The NAP Global Network’s Country Support Hub provides expert advice and short-term technical support on specific issues related to national adaptation planning and implementation. The government of Liberia requested short-term support from the NAP Global Network.
The purpose of the request is to support the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia to develop Agriculture Sector-NAP Implementation Plan, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and data tracking tools for the agriculture sector to enhance the implementation of NAP process.
