Liberia Executes Emergency Evacuation of 50 Nationals from Conflict-Hit Lebanon

Must read

In response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Government of Liberia is taking immediate action to ensure the safety of its citizens residing in Lebanon.

Through a coordinated effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and various UN agencies, an emergency evacuation plan is underway.

The situation in Lebanon has become increasingly perilous, particularly in Beirut, raising serious safety concerns for Liberian nationals.

The Liberian government is urging all citizens with relatives or friends in the region to assist in the evacuation process by providing their names, contact details, and current locations to the Legal section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This information is crucial for us to track and prioritize individuals for evacuation,” a government spokesperson stated. “Given the urgency of the situation, it is imperative that citizens respond promptly, as there is limited time to facilitate this operation.”

Currently, the government is focusing on an estimated 50 Liberians who are already identified but acknowledges that there may be additional nationals who have not yet registered.

“We encourage all Liberian citizens still in Lebanon to remain calm and patient. Our goal is to ensure the safe evacuation of all affected individuals either to a third country of their choosing or directly back to Liberia,” the spokesperson continued.

As tensions in the region escalate, the Liberian government reaffirms its dedication to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad. “We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our citizens during this critical time,” the spokesperson added.

All Liberians in Lebanon are advised to closely monitor official government communications and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The government remains vigilant and committed to its mission to support its nationals abroad as the situation in Lebanon evolves.
