As part of its programs to improve infrastructure in Liberia, government through the Ministry of Public Works has signed a pivotal road project agreement with the Sidani Company.
Signing of the road contract signal a commitment to enhance road connectivity in Paynesville, Montserrado County, and extend to parts of Bong and Grand Bassa Counties.
The project, referred to as the “Landmark Project,” aims primarily at paving roads within Montserrado County to better serve the needs of its citizens.
Acting Minister for Public Works, Samuel Dunnoh, said the initiative will incorporate three distinct components designed to ensure efficient progress and completion of the construction activities.
“This project aligns with the AAID and the ARREST Agenda, focusing on the betterment of the Liberian people,” Minister Dunnoh said, emphasizing the importance of road development in the nation’s broader developmental agenda. He noted that the timely execution of this project will be closely monitored, particularly considering the impending rainy season.
“We will work in collaboration with the contractor to implement these road improvements as mandated by the laws of the Republic of Liberia,” he added, underscoring the government’s commitment to transparency and governance in public infrastructure projects.
Minister Dunnoh elaborated on the significance of road development, revealing that it has been a priority for President Joseph Boakai, who consistently advocates for improved connectivity. “If you speak to the President today, he will tell you that road number one, road number two, and road number three are crucial for our nation’s progress,” he said.
The Minister highlighted that effective road networks are vital for enhancing job connectivity, access to education, healthcare services, and agricultural productivity. He pointed out that without robust road connectivity, achieving progress in these vital sectors would remain a challenge.
As part of this initiative, the Public Works Ministry is also collaborating with financial institutions to secure funding necessary for the rehabilitation of roads within Montserrado County, aiming to boost overall infrastructure development and economic growth across Liberia.
