The Civil Service Agency’s claim that approximately 3,000 Indian workers are employed at ArcelorMittal Liberia has been categorically denied by the company, which emphasizes that this assertion is not only false but misleading.

In a statement, ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) Wednesday provided clarity on its workforce demographics following claims that exaggerated the number of expatriate workers.

According to the company’s employment data as of May 31, 2025, the total number of full-time employees stands at 2,848, with a remarkable 2,555—90%—of these positions occupied by Liberians. The remaining 293 employees, making up only 10% of the workforce, are expatriates, dispelling rumors of a significantly larger foreign workforce.

ArcelorMittal further elaborated that its workforce includes fixed-term and contractor positions, addressing the ongoing expansion efforts in Liberia.

Data from April 30, 2025, reveals that 6,147 individuals are engaged under these categories, of which 4,705 are Liberians (77%), while 1,442 are expatriates (23%). The expatriate workforce primarily consists of specialists involved in technical, construction, and engineering roles related to AML’s Phase Two expansion project, which encompasses the construction of a modern iron ore concentrator and upgrades to relevant infrastructure.

When combining both full-time employees and fixed-term/contractor staff, ArcelorMittal Liberia’s total workforce reaches 8,995, with Liberians representing 7,260—an impressive 81% of this total.

The company emphasized said this distribution exemplifies its commitment to local employment and highlights its significant role in bolstering economic stability and household incomes throughout Liberia.

AML’s leadership underscored its ongoing dedication to fulfilling its obligations under the Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) to prioritize the hiring of Liberians.

The company has invited anyone questioning its employment figures to provide evidence supporting their claims, assuring stakeholders that its financial records are open to any labor-related audit.
